The Counterwatch team builder: draft a winning comp before you queue
Most of your pick decisions happen in the ten seconds before a fight. The team builder is for the calmer moment before that, when you want to test a composition against what you expect to face and see how it holds up. It is a sandbox on the website. Drop heroes into your team, drop heroes into the enemy team, pick a map, and it scores the matchup from real community data.
What the score means
The team builder returns one win-chance number for your comp, plus a per-hero read on which picks are carrying it and which are dragging. That number blends three things. How well your heroes counter the enemy lineup is the heaviest factor, half the weight. How well your heroes synergise with each other is about a third. How they perform on the map you chose is the rest. Counter weighs the most because counter-picking is the highest-leverage decision in a match. Synergy matters but less, since a perfectly synergised comp still loses against the wrong enemy. Map is the lightest, because hero-versus-map is a weaker signal than hero-versus-hero, and plenty of players do not pick around the map anyway.
How it differs from the in-game overlay
The overlay scores the picks that are actually on screen, live, as they lock in your match. The team builder scores hypotheticals, any comp against any comp, before you have even queued. They run on the same data layer, just at different moments. Use the overlay in the match. Use the team builder to plan, which is most useful for a stack agreeing on a composition before loading in, or for checking whether a swap you are considering actually improves the matchup.
Bans, too
As you build your side, the team builder also surfaces the best bans for your specific lineup, ranked on how often each enemy hero appears and how badly they beat your picks. A hero who wrecks two of your five and shows up in nearly every game tops that list; a rare hero with a brutal matchup but a low pick rate usually does not. It is the same logic the app uses for in-match ban windows, available here before you queue.
Where to find it
The team builder lives on the website for both games: Overwatch and Marvel Rivals. It is a sandbox, so nothing you try there touches your stats, and it is on its way into the app. For the live, in-match version, the Counterwatch app overlay scores your real picks as they happen, and the methodology page covers exactly how the counter, synergy, and map terms are computed.
