Data requests and your rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or stop processing it. This page explains who can make a request, what you can ask for, and how we handle it. For the full detail on what we collect and why, see the Privacy Policy.
Who can make a request
Anyone can. You do not need a Counterwatch account.
- Account holders: request access to, correction of, or deletion of your account and the data tied to it.
- Players who never used the app: if your in-game identifier (such as an Overwatch BattleTag or a Marvel Rivals / NetEase id) appears in our data because you were in a tracked match, you can object to that processing or ask us to remove your identifier. See how we process observed-player data.
What you can request
- Access: a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: correction of data that is wrong or incomplete.
- Erasure: deletion of your data, subject to the limits below.
- Restriction: ask us to pause certain processing.
- Portability: receive your data in a portable format.
- Objection:object to processing based on legitimate interest, including our processing of observed players' in-game identifiers.
How to make a request
Email us at oskar@counterwatch.gg with the subject "Data request". To help us act quickly, include:
- What you want (access, deletion, objection, and so on).
- If you have an account: send the email from the address on your account (see verification below).
- If you are an observed player: the game and the exact in-game identifier (for example, your full BattleTag or NetEase id) so we can locate it.
How we verify it is you
We verify identity before acting, so we never expose or delete the wrong person's data.
- Account holders: the website has no login, so please email us from the email address associated with your account. That confirms the request is yours.
- Observed players:tell us the game and the exact in-game identifier. Because deleting an unverified identifier would affect someone else's data, we may ask for more information and may decline a request where we cannot reasonably establish that the identifier is yours.
What we can and cannot do
- Timing: we respond within one month of verifying your request. For complex or numerous requests we may extend this by up to two further months, and will tell you within the first month if so.
- Backups: when we delete data from our live systems, copies can remain in encrypted backups until those backups age out on a scheduled roll-off. We do not surgically edit individual records out of backups.
- Payment records: we keep payment and accounting records for about 7 years to comply with Swedish bookkeeping law. We cannot delete these earlier, even on request.
Objecting to observed-player data
We record in-game identifiers and match stats of players seen in tracked matches to produce community statistics and power the app's live-match features, on the basis of legitimate interest. If you do not want us to process your in-game identifier, you can object using the steps above, and we will redact or remove it once we have verified a reasonable connection to it. The full reasoning is in the Privacy Policy.
If you are not satisfied
If you are in the EU / EEA, you can lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. The authority for Sweden is the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY), at imy.se.
